The gospel of social media

Religious homilies will often begin with a secular reference to a mundane daily ritual that somehow illuminates our understanding of something mysterious and spiritual. (At this point imagine a Rowan Atkinson voice in your head saying: “I was painting my fence the other day. You know, God is like a fence...”) Here I’m going to try to turn the tables and use a theological reference to offer some insight into how social media works. Bear with me on this one – I can’t promise it will be worth it, but I’ll do my best.
